Project 2017-2018 School Nº 4764 “Mision La Curvita” – Salta Province.

“Building of two (2) classrooms and a exterior gallery”

School Nº 4764 “Mision La Curvita” is located in the Municipality of Santa Victoria Este, province of Salta, Argentina. La Curvita’s community belong to different native groups: chorote, wichi, tobas, nivaklé, guaraní tapiete and collas. In February 2018, this native community suffered a big flood when the Pilcomayo River overflowed and they lost everything, including their school. Afterwards, they moved their township 8 miles away and started all over again. At the beginning, they used shipping containers as classrooms, which were unsuitable, cold in winter and hot in summer; they were also long and narrow making it difficult for some students to see the board in the front. For lunch, students had to eat in an open space without tables.

Thanks to the Argentina Chicago Foundation’s donation, 240 elementary school children and 160 high school students now have two newly built classrooms and an outdoor gallery with tables to enjoy their meals. This project has impacted the entire community since the school is the center where parents entrust their children’s education as hope for a better future.
